Was planning to drive to Montreal in July for my birthday from the Glens Falls, NY area. Any ideas on what area would be best for a day trip for a non french speaker? Would Old Montreal be a good destination?

We're planning to drive up, then hopefully park the car and do as much walking as possible and Old Montreal sounds like it has a lot in the way of things to see when walking. Any problems with finding affordable parking or is it going to be like NYC where you have to spend a small fortune? =)

All tips/warnings appreciated.

Try to find a hotel/motel that has provisions for parking as with most big cities parking can be problematic and expensive.. Do a search on what festivals are happening during your time here.
Nightlife can be had almost anywhere downtown but Crescent St. would be considered party central a few blocks to the west of downtown while St Denis St. would be considered party central a few more blocks to the east of downtown, downtown would be Peel and St Catherine streets. When looking at a map Down town core would be bordered by Atwater Street to the west and St Laurent to the east, Sherbrooke st. to the north and Rene Levesque to the south..
When downtown do get lost in the undergound city as part of your adventure (daytime only),
Also take a bus up to the park on top of the mountain bring your camera to capture the fantastic views,To get there Go Mont Royale subway station then take the number 11 bus west bound,
Station Mont-Royal 54005

Bus 11 Montagne Westbound

Remembrance / Chemin du Chalet
Ask your hotel clerk how to buy bus tickets as the've recently gone digital.
