I am not looking for the most upscale, stylish, modern, trendy, or expensive restaurant or clubs. In fact I would like to avoid places like that. I would like to find some places that are unique and memorable (something I couldnt get in New York City). I am looking for someplace with a rooftop terrace where I can get a few cheap beers and enjoy a great view, for example. A nice restaurant that has unique food, a nice atmosphere, but isnt too expensive or snobby. Someplace you would go if you only had a few nights and had never been there before. Any help appreciated.

I personally love a restaurant called "Le Mas des Oliviers" (The Field of Olives) in the heart of downtown Montreal. It is French food of course. I'm from the northeast as well and found this place to be a very cute French restaurant long before before I moved here. It's real deal with very memorable food and atmosphere. Not too snoody, but also not too informal. Friendly service. Really makes a great capper for a visit from New York, Boston, Baltimore or Wherever.
