I’m a mom of a 12-year-old son and we live in Toronto. For a job reasons we're moving to Montreal. We are both English speaking, so I worry about him changing school and adjusting. How does the educational system work in Quebec? My son is in grade 7. I was told that in Quebec kids have to write exams by end of the school year? Not sure where to ask about this. Maybe someone here could help. Thanks!
To build on these comments by El Pablo, if your child is going to English school in Toronto at the moment then he/she will be able to continue schooling in English in Montreal. (Although as he said the amount of French teaching will be considerably higher than in Toronto, unless he/she is in French immersion.)
Province-wide, ministerial exams are administered during every year during high school, but I believe the ones in the two last years (secondary 4 and secondary 5) are the most critical ones, and must be passed in order to get your diploma.
Note that Grade 7 in Quebec is the first year of high school, and that there are five years of secondary (high) school. Kids in Quebec generally graduate from high school around age 16.
