I have been living in Montreal for 11 years ... I followed you for a while ... Afordables rentings you can find in Lasalle, Lachine, Dorval ... they talk english 50-50 % ... it's ok also to move in Pierrefonds, DDO ... there are nice neighbours there ...they talk english maybe 80%.
I live in Greenfield Park, South Shore ... when I mooved here I hoped the talk english but NO ... just few persons I heard talking english ... also St. Lambert ... so never South Shore if you don't know french!
I really love West Montreal ... I lived 5 years in Lachine and I enjoyed it!

I disagree. I spent some of my teen years in Brossard, and I'd say it's about 50-50. There are so many foreigners in that town, and their second language (the first not being French) is generally English.
Also I find it odd that you didn't find much English in Greenfield Park. Census data shows English as the at-home language for 40% of the residents.
And on the South Shore you also have Chateauguay as a hot spot for English.

True about Chateauguay! It's a nice town to live in, as well.

I always used to think of NDG as a majority English area. I am not so sure it is anymore.

Cote St. Luc and Hampstead - both near NDG - are most assuredly English-speaking areas (as well as, of course, Jewish), even though there are francophones and allophones there as well.
