I will be visiting Montreal middle of June. The first 2 nights I'll be in Pointe Claire and have my hotel for there already booked, but I need to change hotels afterwards as I'll be staying on for some sightseeing. Any recommendations? I hear downtown is all torn up with construction. Are there any touristy spots not affected? Would like to keep the nightly rate under $220.

PS: Figured I post my query directly in the Montreal forum and ask the locals!!
Thanks!

You are right Ste Catherine St is all torn up for construction as is most of the cities major thoroughfares, you might want to think of staying in Point Claire and taking the train into the city.

Thank you Jambo. Is there a map that shows all the construction?

I was hoping to stay downtown for the 3 nights so I can get more of the flavor of Montreal. I won't have a car, I'll be walking or was planning to take Uber or Lyft.

What's the point of staying way out in Pointe-Claire if you want to visit the city, even if there is lots of construction? Construction isn't happening at night, is it? So it won't be noisy at night (at least not from construction).

And any construction effects will be felt during the day when visiting anyway, whether the OP stays in Pointe-Claire (and schleps in on the train), or stays downtown.

You shouldn’t need a car regardless of where you stay. Montreal is one of the easiest cities to get around in without a car.

I agree with Acajack though: Why be in Pointe Claire if you’re trying to experience the city?

Ubers get stuck in traffic just like the rest of car drivers. Use the métro (subway) whenever you can!

I'll be in Pointe Claire for 2 nights for work, then going on vacation. That's why I titled my thread for downtown Montreal.

I've stayed there a few times and it's fine. Good location.

It's got a bit of a retro Asian kitsch décor that's actually kinda endearing to me.

The hotel is in Montreal's Chinatown but well-located as it's between the main downtown (Ste-Catherine), the old town (Vieux-Montréal) and also not too far from St-Denis which leads up to the Plateau Mont-Royal which is another interesting area.

There is a Métro station right near the hotel too.
