There are a couple of Anglican churches downtown. Most of the Anglophones I knew, descendants from Irish or Eastern European immigrants, were Catholic.

One interesting church is St James United on Ste-Catherine.

For many decades this huge and beautiful church was literally hidden by a commercial building built right in front of it:



The church had a somewhat garish neon sign on the street:



A couple of years ago the building in front was removed:

Not too far from there is Christ Church Anglican Cathedral. It also has a commercial component as the Promenades de la Cathédrale shopping centre was built right under the church:

I guess that many Protestant churches in Quebec have closed over the years due to declining membership.

I haven't been downtown in a few a years, but it looks like they did a great job. Growing up, there was a record store in that building I used to go to all the time. I never thought twice about the fact the Church was covered up.
