Dear All,

I am writing this post to know the possibility of taking my 2year old child (dependant child of an international PhD student) who is having fever, severe cough and a chest congestion with phlegm to a doctor.

I am an international student who is not eligible to get RAMQ or healthcare from Quebec government. So we have a family insurance from a private insurance company.

I would like to know what is the modus operandi for taking a sick child to meet a doctor without having to wait 3-4 hours in queue or shell out a lot of money. My friends have told me that I cannot go to a hospital with a child. All I want is to make sure my child is alright soon.

Please let me know.

Thank you all for the help in advance.

You should call the Info-Santé line, at 8-1-1. They'll tell you what to do.

Also, seeing a doctor without RAMQ coverage for a simple thing like that (prescription) shouldn't cost more than around 100 dollars (max) out of pocket. Maybe quite a bit less.

Go to walk in clinics. Some allow you to take appointment by calling early morning. You pay and then claim from your private insurance.

You have to go to a walk-in clinic. Try calling first, some pediatric clinics will give you a time slot even for the walk-in. Regardless of where you are going you will be charged and will have to claim it to your private insurance. I doubt that you will have much of a difference in price between the clinics.
