My son and I will be visiting. I am hoping to get a hotel that is cheaper than I can find in downtown or old city. My thoughts are

- Free or reasonably priced parking.
- On metro. I am VERY comfy with the Montreal metro which IIRC can get me to Old city, downtown, Biodome and La Rond. The latter two are less important. We could drive there.
- Nice.

How far is "Latin quarter" and "Laval" areas from downtown which is an area I know. How likely is metro access? Travelocity does not specify proximity to metro. Also there are a lot of full hotels. Does anyone know what is going on this weekend?

Thanks!

S

Latin Quarter (Quartier Latin) is very close to downtown. Walking distance from it in fact. Metro stations there that can take you all over the city. Forget about free parking here.

Laval is some distance away and off the main island where the city is located. This is the northern suburbs but it also has metro service. Probably a good half hour metro ride into the central city. Or more if you include wait times. Free parking of course as you're in the suburbs.

You should also look at Longueuil which is off-island but right across the river from downtown. It has a metro station and is literally 1-2 stations away from downtown so very quick. There are some hotels I believe that are walking distance to the Longueuil metro.

Also right on the island there are some hotels near the Olympic Stadium, Biodôme and Botanical Garden area near Rue Sherbrooke Est. Like the Hôtel Universel and such. That area also has metro stations with regular service. It is less dense than the inner city so somewhat easier to park.

Oh and BTW there are multiple things going on in Montreal every weekend, especially in the summer.

I looked it up and it appears the largest event this weekend is the "gay pride" festival.

Another lodging choice is Plateau Mont Royal. This seems on the other side of the Latin Quarter. Still walking distance? Likely on the metro? Thanks.

Yes, the Plateau is a really good area as well. Inner city so parking is tight. On the metro.

I just did a Google News search with Montreal and "festival" for articles from this week.

But this should have a more complete list of events:
