Can anyone offer some places to look for French classes in/around Montreal in the day?? Not looking for the government programs that require you to be an immigrant (I'm Canadian). Do lots of school districts offer access education?
La Porte Ouverte here in St Jean is free but only 1 day per week (9-5). Are there any other places that offer this? I would really appreciate any ideas. I've got a good job lined up here but I need to improve my French before I start (September 2014). Thanks!
If you are looking for a smaller school in Montreal, you can try Axion 21 on rue St-Jacques. My younger sister studied English and French there. I used to meet her after class and I really like the personal feeling of the school. They were very nice. Here is their website. Also look at McGill's Continuing Education programs. I took a French class there and was quite pleased with it. I also second the YMCA. They have small class sizes which is always a good thing.
I attend gov. subsidized French class and one third of the classroom are Canadian citizens (born here) from different provinces. The rest are immigrants. Maybe you are misinformed about the eligibility criteria? Even if you are Canadian, I think you should be eligible for gov. schools.
This is the school I attend - Centre Saint-Louis : Centre Saint-Louis | English I think it is a good school and affordable. It is centrally located as well.
Berlitz. They even have one on one training. Tell them about your job and they should be able to design lessons that will be practical for your job. Rosetta Stone is also famous for being very good but I don't know if it is right for what you need.
Also, try to immerse yourself in French so that you begin to think in French. Go to conversation groups, watch French tv, read the French newspaper and do your online searches in French. Stuff like that will help.
