What are some of the "good" exercise facilities in the Montreal area (not just one type of exercise or weight stuff....but a complete gym type of place with multiple classes for group exercise (various types of classes), weight lift area, cardio area, etc)? For example, here we have Y (very, very nice ones), Genesis, Planet Fitness, etc. as well known/popular facilities.
Gold's Gym, ClubProForme, Club Mansfield is popular esp. with the bodybuilding crowd, a few IFBB pros work out of there. EnergieCardio and Club Nautilius are popular with the average Joe crowd.
The gym isn't really popular out here like it is in other places (at least in Vancouver where I am originally from). More drinking, more smoking, less "in shape" ~ but overall slim population.

There are lots of gyms. We also have the "Y" up here. Some of my friends really like the gym at Concordia University (you don't need to be an alumnus). I like Gold's Gym.
Do the gyms / facilities typically have a child care area? Here, most of them have a place where kids (under a certain age) can be dropped off for a couple of hours at a time as long a parent is in the building.
That is one of the reasons I am interested in facilities....would probably be a bit more difficult to do some of the outdoor stuff with my kids! (though walking, running, biking will likely happen with them!)

Most of them do not. Some places, like my local EnergieCardio, offer a little table for a kid to sit at (I don't know about you but I don't trust my 3 year old to just sit there for 45 minutes!). ClubProForme has a good childcare centre and it's only $10/month on top of your membership. Gold's Gym has excellent childcare but if I recall it was an extra $3-5/hour and that's just for one child, I have two.
There is some decent recreation here in Montreal (I'm from Vancouver so to me it's not great but to most I think it's fine). Biking is very popular out here, I invested in a double Cheetah Chariot which can be converted for running, walking, skiing, and biking. Highly recommend it. Lots of bike paths on the south shore including from Saint-Jean to Chambly.
I *personally* recommend Golds, if you have money, or ClubProForme if you are on a budget.
