Sounds like a bunch of weirdos and probably not in total compliance with many aspects of Quebecs charter of rights.Any one one wanting to out their little nest of Les Autres need to alert the appropriate authorities.

Not necessarily weirdos. They also have a community near Parc and St. Viateur, in addition to many in the US, including a huge one in Brooklyn. I used to live close to a Hasidic community near NYC. They are an extremely conservative Jewish sect. They are very non-compliant to society in general. The local school district did not provide bus service because the students refused to get on a bus driven by a female driver.

OK maybe weirdos was a poor choice of words,I just find fundamentalist groups hard to understand and are so far out of the norm that weird is a word that easily rolls off the tongue.

They have also branched out outside of NYC and have founded communities in the Catskills NW of the city. I believe some of them are pretty much self-contained distinct municipalities.

I lived close to the one near Monroe, NY. They were not good neighbors. It is off-topic, but a quick Google search should give a couple of good stories of land grabs and corruption.
