Hi everybody,

We're about to move from Mexico to Laval in the first week of August (we're very excited about it!). We already have an appartment (I made a trip in May to secure it), but it'll be empty, not a single spoon.

So our first task we'll be to get everything we need. We've been doing some research in Kijiji and Craiglist, but there are some things that we would like to get brand new.

What place would you recommend us to look at? Walmart or Zellers? Which one has better prices and quality? I'm talking about small appliances, kitchen stuff, towels, etc.

We would greatly appreciate your comments! Thank you!

You could probably go online to each companies website to compare prices, add Canadian Tire to your list of stores to buy stuff, for kitchen small stuff like knives and forks etc i'd go to a Dollar Store.

I would say Walmart is better price/quality. Most of the Zellers stores are closing down anyway.
For kitchen/bathroom I would definetely visit also IKEA and eventualy Jysk (a Danish store, smaller version of Ikea)

It can't hurt to take a run through a dollar store or two. They sometimes have some kitchen utensils and containers really cheap.

What about Walmart? I've been to the one at St-Leonard, but not Laval.

Autoroute 15 Et Boul. St-Martin,

Walmart

You can also add Sears.
Sears Canada - Online Shopping at Canada's Department Store | Sears Canada

Thank you for the recommendations! A good thing about Laval is that everything is close and convenient (with a car).

By the way, I found some stores that sell used appliances (i.e. refrigerator, stove, dishwasher) at good prices and offer 1 year warranty. Would you recommend those or is it a bad choice? I mean, maybe by trying to save some money we end up paying more because of malfunction or energy consumption (older models are not as energy efficient as the newer).
