Hi everyone - I hope you don't mind me asking a question on behalf of my husband, he knows about this forum, but isn't registered yet.

We are moving to Quebec by the end of 2012 (we hope) and as the main bread winner in our family, my husband will be looking for IT jobs.

Just briefly, he is fluent both in French anf English (I would say he speaks them equally well). He has recently done the French exam required for Skilled Workers which gave his overall level as "Advanced".

I have looked at various labour market statistics for Canada and specifically Quebec. They indicate that IT is in high demand and will become increasingly so in the next 5 years. Is this really true ?

Hubby is an IT consultant. He is a specialist in network security and network implementation. He has over 10 years' experience in top UK/US companies based in the London area.

My question is this, WHERE should he be looking for work? Luckily he is travelling to Montreal soon on a business trip and will have a few free days on his hands to have a good look around.

I have read that Montreal has local area "job centres" (are these just walk in places or do you need an appointment ?) What about job agencies, do they have specialist ones for IT, again are these walk in places or do you need to make a prior appointment ?

Anyone working in the IT sector who knows a bit about Montreal/Quebec in general, we would be grateful for any job hunting hints.

He has French and English CVs ready to go !

Hi,
I'm in Montreal since July, I worked as a Network Engineer for 5 years in Belgium, I speak French and English.
I found a job just 1 week after publishing my CV on monster and changed job for a bigger company after 2 months, so I think it would be very easy for him to find a job if he has a work visa.
Create a Canadian French/English resume, publish it on Monster, jobboom, Linkedin and Apply to open position for large companies (csc, cgi, ...).
I was really amazed by the job market here, there's less competition than in Toronto for the same job, wages are the same and cost of living is cheaper but all that only if you speak French and English.
Regards

DJ - thanks so much for your quick reply. That's great news, my husband speaks English and French fluently (thank goodness !). That's a relief as I don't have much French so it may take me longer to settle in.

One of us needs a job the minute we get there, so this is good news.

Do they not have employment/recruitment agents like the UK ? He has found his previous positions in the UK through agencies that specialise in IT work.

I will ask him to post his CV on the sites you recommend.

We are going under the Skilled Worker Scheme (he is the main applicant of course) so no issue with visas.
Thanks so much !

In addition to Monster, I recommend Workopolis for Canadian CV's.

kayjay12, if you husband can get any job offer along his line, take it as it will open door to other opportunities.

SNC is currently recruiting a programmer (VB.net, Sql server 2005, Vs2008), with min. 2-year experience and above. In case others may find it useful, I'll post it here.

Thanks Dougie - that's very kind of you. My husband is a network engineer. I will look at the ad any way as there may be other suitable things for him. Since my last post we have both found a list of recruitment agents in Montreal some of whom deal with IT people. So he will send his CV to them and also post his CV on job websites : )
It's all looking very positive.
