Recent immigrants from France to Quebec include those originally from PRC who had studied in French universities/colleges and worked in France. They have an advantage in terms of their Mandarin and French.

The only province that started 30 years ago, the bi-lingual Chinese-English schools within their public education system is in Edmonton, Alberta.

Thus, you might want to look into doing your masters in Chinese at say UofA,
Home - China Institute - University of Alberta

and then get your teacher certification from the province where you intend to teach.

St Albert, Alberta has bi-lingual schools within their public education system as well. But I do not know much about it.

Metro Vancouver (BC) has a couple of Chinese immersion schools, where admission priority will be given to students who do not speak Mandarin at home. Again competition for teaching posts is great given that PRC is our top source country of immigrants in the last decade. Who can beat them at their mother tongue!

Then apply for PR (permanent residency) with your "Canadian Experience"
or under PNP (provincial nominees)

dougie86, great post! It's true a lot of competition is coming from PRC into Canada. So I might stay in the US to pursue my dream career teaching Chinese as a foreign language in a small or medium sized college. The thing is I'm not sure if small and/or medium sized colleges offer foreign languages like Chinese. Maybe I should first get my masters then try to get a PhD in China somewhere in Canada. Can anyone recommend a forum for those like me who are thinking about teaching in Canada at the high school and college level?

I got it. You didn't like the idea of living and teaching in Alberta.

Doing your PhD in Chinese studies in a Canadian university is not a bad idea. Although you'll see that quite a few teaching staff at McGill's EAS earned their doctorates at Stanford, Yale & Havard.

I don't see how going to other forums will help you to narrow down your choices. This place is slow, but you might get lucky when the right answers turn up.

Take a look at the faculty members' educational background of these 2 universities here in BC, it might give you some insight.
