Hi, I'm a Torontonian who is planning to go to Montreal during the Jazz Festival period. I've never been in Montreal during this period, so I want to ask a few minor questions.

1. How are the roads? Do they block a lot of them? or just a few?

2. Are the hotels more expensive during this period? (probably not..?)

3. What time does it usually end each day?

4. Are more people out there later at night partying or drinking or clubbing like it is some serious festival? or do they regard it as a few free day/evening concerts happening on one of those regular days?

5. Are the shows mostly jazz? or are they more like all sorts of music with little more jazz thrown in?

I'm personally a huge fan of jazz and would love to visit there this summer, but before that I just wanna know if the festival is considered to be a big deal and how locals feel about it.

The festival is definately a big deal, downtown is alive into the wee hours of the morning on regular summer days. Even more so during the festival.

Although jazz is the main attraction, theres also other types of music going on.

Yes the Jazz Fest is one of the largest jazz events in the world!
Dont even think of driving a car to the event, take the bus or the Metro.
The music starts around noon and goes on till 2-3am
Shows are mostly Jazz bands from around the world but mostly N.American.
Not sure about hotel prices but summer would be considered peak season.
Heres some of the lineup = Montreal Jazz Festival 2010 | Festival Outlook
