I've heard that South Salinas is safe whereas you shouldn't even drive through the rest of Salinas. I'm a single young woman who lives alone and am wondering if this address riker at lang, salinas, ca - Google Maps
would be safe for me. It's advertised on Craigs List as "South" Salinas, but it looks pretty central to me. Then again, I'm not very familiar with the area. I would be so grateful if a local could give me his/her opinion. Thank you!

I think this is considered South Salinas technically. However it is also positioned more toward the center of things as you've observed. This is also right next to Salinas High which draws teens from all over the city. I won't say whether it is safe or not as I'm not an expert on Salinas sub neighborhoods. Though our kids do play at a park not too far from there with friends at times and we feel its safe - Hartnell Park. Maybe a resident or once resident can chime in as well. Keep in mind most of what you hear will be opinion and unfortunately you'll get a lot of extremes (e.g. all Salinas is safe vs. its all ghetto/sucks). IMO the truth is neither of these extremes, bit rather somewhere in the middle. Some parts are worse than others like many cities. But crime can happen anywhere. It just may be less frequent in some parts vs. others.

Here is a crime map which the Salinas PD works with in providing crime stats. Just type in Salinas, Ca: https://www.crimereports.com/

Hi Susan. That is still a pretty safe place to live. Its close to the high school but also close to downtown. I have relatives that live on Riker, closer to Nob Hill in a condo and its pretty nice.
