What we prefer may not be what you prefer. What kind of town/city are you looking for?

Default Kalispell

Of course everyone has their own opinions, likes/dislikes about each town but to answer your question I personally prefer Kalispell. Bozeman is a very nice town but not my favorite. I love Missoula but it is too liberal for someone as conservative as me. Kalispell has everything that appeals to me personally. I love the scenery, the lakes, the people, the weather (believe it or not), the year-round outdoor recreation (skiing, hiking, hunting, fishing, water sports, etc…) and the town itself has a lot to offer without being too big. The only con I have is the traffic in the summer but they are building a bypass around the town next year that should (hopefully) ease the congestion through town.

Looking for natural beauty, a vibrant downtown, affordable housing, family friendly, low crime, educated population, good schools...

I prefer Kalispell as well. It had everything I was looking for: friendly, helpful people, mountains, lakes, plenty of free fun things to do close by, snow, wildlife...it was just a great place to be. Only thing I couldn't find there was a good job!

You really need to visit all three. It's the "affordable housing" part that's going to be the problem but I think that property prices may be inching down a bit all over the state. Even though my town is farther west than Bozeman it is in the prairie and property prices tend to be lower in the prairie areas than the Rocky Mountain areas. If I had to live in one of those I would chose Kalispell in a heartbeat.

It definitely depends on what a person thinks of as "affordable". Maybe by NYC standards, but I hope you have a job lined up or tons of money stashed away.

Affordable would mean a house under $300k, preferrably in the mid-200's.

According to Wright Real Estate MLS there are currently 492 houses in the city of Kalispell under $300,000. Good luck.

I have lived in Kalispell (over thirty years) and couldn't see myself living in Missoula. If I were to stay in Montana I would take Boseman over Missoula, anyday! For family reasons I am looking at moving to upper east coast,....closer to family. It's hard to leave Montana & my west valley down home view.
