Hi Y'all!
I just joined because my family & I are going to be moving to Montana (again) in 3.5 years. My husband is Air Force & we're currently in Spokane, Wa but were in Great Falls for 4 years prior to coming here last year!
I am writing to see if anyone is from the Butte, Whitehall area, as we are going to be looking at some properties down that way in 2 weeks.
Sincerely,
Kim

Smile I love Whitehall!!

Hi Kim,

I'm curious as to how your land hunting trip went? We own 40 acres in the Pipestone Pass area between Butte and Whitehall and really love that area. We hope to build on the property one day. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the area.

Tom

Maybe in Pipestone but no rattlers here in Whitehall......That rocky, high dessert kind of land is rattlesnake country and they are around, but down here near the river, not a problem.

Default Rattlesnakes

I should have said we own land in the Rader Creek area off Rte 2, not Pipestone Pass. No rattlesnakes on our property that I've ever seen...at least not yet! Our land is at 6,000 feet, I wonder if rattlenakes like it that high?

Oh we have a bunch of those cagey critters around here though (great falls).
They hang out along the river bottoms and up in the plains.....pretty busy fellows in the summer, that's for sure.

We're at 3,300 feet and higher, and those snakes will go where ever there's food... doesn't make a difference.

The dogs do a pretty good job of chasing them off our place.

Speaking of such... a couple of years back, I discovered a 9 foot 8 inch bull snake in a sapling on the Smith river.... it was so heavy that the tree was all bent over..... I got him though... and how.

Finishing concrete on some grain silos a while back, and this 5 and a half footer (rattlesnake) came roaring out of the wheat field.... right next to me....
Needless to say...I grabbed the shovel and gave her a pretty good bean dip.
Scared the hell out of me.... she was so close that I could've reached down and grabbed her with my hand.....
