Too bad this is the only way a Carnival ship makes a comeback in Mobile.

HOUSTON (AP) -- The operators of a cruise vessel stranded in the Gulf of Mexico after a weekend engine fire said Monday evening that the craft had drifted so far north of its original position that they now will tow the ship to Mobile, Ala., instead of their original plan for Progreso, Mexico.

I always knew there were good reasons I didn't want to go on a cruise. Mexico wouldn't be my thing anyway. I prefer to fly/drive to vacation destinations.

The way that Carnival treated Mobile was dirty and now they want to use our terminal ! Why they didn`t go to New Orleans ?

This might plant the idea for Carnival that a more eastward port might be a good option to have down the road. Things happen unexpectedly at sea, just as on land. I missed my one opt for a cruise out of Mobile so I will wait and see. (by the sea)

I can't believe they have them waiting to get into port until tomorrow. The s*** is going to hit the poop deck on this one.

To add insult to injury, the front page of Carnival's website as of today (Feb 14) say's this:

Alabama is nice, but how about a cruise from New Orleans?

What a kick in the face to Mobile, after all the hustling the city of Mobile is doing to help out the cruise line and passengers!

Thanks for the tip. I just sent that story off to al.com and received a grateful comment from the reporter covering the story. It should be hitting their website shortly.

How ungrateful of the cruise line. I would think the passengers will be so glad to get off that ship it would not matter to them what port, but for Carnival to post that knowing full well all the preparations being made for the passengers to disembark is thoughtless.

Somebody in Mobile must have really pi$$ed in Carnival's corn flakes before they left town.

The plan is currently to disembark the passengers - who have gone days without a hot shower or decent meal - and put them on a bus to New Orleans to stay in a hotel there. If I was a passenger, I would want to be headed to the nearest hotel for a good meal, a shower and a good night's rest. Then fly out from MOB the next morning to wherever I needed to go. If I were on the charter to Houston, I'd want it to fly out of Brookley from the Downtown Air Center rather than ride all the way out to Bates Field.

The last thing I would want to do is spend 2 1/2+ hours on a bus with a bunch of other passengers who were just as miserable as I was.

I wonder how many attorneys will be handing out business cards at the cruise terminal...
