The Great Brinks Robbery
Eleven men robbed the Brinks building in Boston on January 17, 1950 of over 2 million.
In June of 1950, two of the bandits, Joseph "Specs" O'Keefe and Stanley "Gus" Gusciora left Boston on a road trip to St.Louis to visit the grave of Gusciora's brother, Edward, who'd been killed in the war. Getting out of Boston seemed a smart move, as the heat on the two of them was getting high.

MURDER AT BUSCH STADIUM

An argument over a gambling debt that began elsewhere ended in a fatal shooting on opening day at Busch Stadium in St.Louis in 1970. On the April 10 home opener against the New York Mets, U.D. Earvin, 48, was seated in the bleachers of the Cardinal's stadium. During the 5th or 6th inning, he was joined by Rufus Mack, 33, a coworker at a local packing company, who came up to Earvin and began arguing with him about a $5 bet allegedly owed him by Earvin. The dispute began earlier that day when the two had been playing a bowling machine in a local bar. Witnesses overheard Earvin say he would pay off after the game, but Mack insisted that he pay up immediately. According to Mack's sister, Earvin then enticed his friend to the bleacher restrooms with the offer of a drink. When they arrived there, Earvin insulted Mack, calling him among other things " a river rat." A heated confrontation ensued during which Earvin pulled a gun from his pocket and shot Mack twice, killing him instantly. When the police arrived a few moments later, Earvin was standing over the dead man, his gun now back in his pocket. He was arrested and charged with first degree murder. At his trial in October of 1971, he claimed self defense but the jury thought otherwise and sentenced Earvin to a life term. In 1974 it was overturned on the grounds that certain testimony should not have been allowed. The judges ordered a new trial and he was charged with 2nd degree murder and sentenced to 10 years. He posted bond and disappeared, never serving out his sentence.

Does anyone have any further information on a man named George F.Barton ?
He was an Englishman who moved to St.Louis pretending to be some wealthy guy using the alias Lord Frederick Seymour Barrington and murdered a man here in 1903 named James P McCann. In reality he was an embezzler, burglar and con artist and was held in the clayton jail sentenced to be hanged. I
would like to know if he ever got his royal neck stretched.[/quote]

Lord Barrington received a reprieve and was deported from the US in 1917 after serving a custodial sentence.
