NEVADA DAILY MAIL Nov 22, 1893

San Antonio Nov 21-- Charles Loakman, while on trial for burglary admitted that his name was Charles Meyers. He is wanted in Missouri for complicity in the Lamar Missouri train robbery, and Kansas City officials are here to secure a requisition for him. He was given 5 years for burglary, and after serving out his sentence he will probably be taken to Missouri to answer for the train robbery.

SENSATIONAL TRAIN ROBBERY TWO BANDITS KILLED
St.Louis reports a startling wild west mail train robbery which resulted in the death of two train robbers and the capture of a third. This band had a score of successful holdups as their record. The robbers stopped a train, stuck up the mail clerks and rifled the registered sacks. They detached the locomotive and sped away in it,slowing up 150 miles from Wittemburg,Missouri, where they jumped off and permitted the engine to run wild. They had an automobile hidden at the spot, but the authorities, who got wind of their plans, hid in a thicket. Surrounding the motor, two robbers who put up a fight were shot fatally. The authorities had refrained from sending a special guard with the mail train in the fear of frightening away the bandits, but decided to take their chance and guard the spot of the proposed escape.

LOS ANGELES HERALD Jan 20, 1888

ROBBERS FOILED
St.Louis Jan 19--In the attempted train robbery mentioned in a former dispatch, the officials had been warned of the impending attack and had an armed posse on the train. At 9:30 pm at Cooley's Lake, one of the loneliest spots on the road, was approached and a red light was seen gleaming ahead. As the train slowed up,the engineer saw two masked men, armed with rules standing on the track. "Get off there" said the leader of the three men. The engineer complied and just as he reached the ground an officer in the cab fired a shot and was answered by shots from the robbers which rattled around the engine but did no harm. The three men then returned. As they moved back, part of the posse came up from the woods where they had been in concealment and opened fire on the robbers. About 20 shots were exchanged. The posse continued pursuit of the robbers and it is reported that one robber has been killed and two captured. The robbers are known by the farmers living in the neighborhood of Missouri City. One of them is said to have been a member of the James gang. The plot was given away by one of the gang named King, who told Grant Arnold, the station agent of Missouri. Arnold in turn informed the sheriff of Clay County and the latter organized a posse. King remained with the gang and signaled the train to stop, but took no other part in the robbery. Telegrams to General Manager Hays say that all the would be robbers have been captured. Three of them were overtaken by the posse and the fourth,Barney Sweeney, the leader, who received a heavy load of shot in the breast from the gun of a man concealed in the engine cab,was found in the woods, where he crawled after being fatally wounded. Sweeney was a well known blackmailer.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS (Denver Colorado) May 21, 1890

REMNANTS OF THE GANG
SOME OF JESSE JAMES GANG CAPTURED IN WISCONSIN
Jefferson,Wis.,May 20--Three men said to be members of the once noted Jesse James gang, were handed over to the Missouri officers by local authorities yesterday. A week ago, information was received here that authorities of Douglas County,Missouri wanted three men on a charge of murder and of robbing the Douglas County Treasury at Ava of $7,000. May 14,Deputy Sheriff Herman Gralwie,at Watertown, identified and arrested a man giving the name of F.S Berry on the description furnished him from Missouri. The next day two other men arrived on a train from the south and inquired about the man being locked up and were promptly taken in. The officers in pursuit were on the same train as the last two arrested but neither party was aware of the identity of their fellow travelers. Sheriff Lyon of Douglas County arrived yesterday, recognized his men at once and took them back to Missouri today. The report that the criminals were members of the old Jesse James gang of murderers, although freely circulated,is not given full credence,as the oldest man is less than 40 years of age and the youngest not over 25. Their names are Scott,Officer and Harlow. Each carried a complete kit of burglar tools and weapons.

"Jack The Stabber"

LOS ANGELES HERALD Feb 11, 1906

ST.LOUIS POLICE CAPTURE STABBER,WAITER CONFESSES HE IS KNIFE WIELDER
St.Louis Feb 10---John Brady,22 years old,an unemployed waiter was arrested today on suspicion of being the man given the name of "Jack The Stabber" who stabbed a number of women on the streets during the past three weeks, and later confessed. Brady was arrested in a resort where he had boasted that he was "Jack The Stabber." What his motive was in stabbing women indiscriminately has not been told by him. A total of 17 women and girls have been stabbed on the streets,14 having been stabbed during the early morning of January 22,none were seriously wounded. Brady insists that he did not stab all of them, but admits that he does not know how many were the victims of his knife. His parents have been living apart for two years, the mother and children living at 119 North Vandeventer Avenue. Brady has not been living at home for some time. He said, "I left home fearing I would be seized with the uncontrollable passion to harm women and attack my sisters." Information charging Brady with assault to kill were issued this afternoon by Assistant Circuit Attorney Rosekopen at the instance of Miss Grace Oglesby and other women who were stabbed while walking along the streets. Brady was with Chief of Detectives Desmond for only a short time when he broke down and made a confession. On the Chief's desk lay the pocketknife that had been taken from the young man which he stabbed several women. Brady identified the knife, "I just took that knife and stuck it into them." He was taken back to his cell and will be held pending a charge that will be placed against him.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE Nov 13, 1890

DESPERADO TURLINGTON CAPTURED
A notorious Missouri train robber who escaped while under sentence of death.
Evansville,Ind.,Nov 12---John O Turlington, the notorious Missouri train robber who escaped from jail at Boonville,Mo. about 3 weeks ago while under sentence of death was captured today at Caseyville,Mo.,by Constable W.C Dyer and H.C Spencer. Turlington is the man who unassisted robbed the passengers in a sleeper on the Missouri Pacific nearly a year ago,but was afterward captured and imprisoned in Boonville,Missouri. While confined there one of his friends managed to get a pistol to him with which he killed the sheriff who had been instrumental in his arrest. For this crime he was convicted and sentenced to hang November 14. About three weeks ago Turlington made his escape from the Boonville jail by arranging a dummy which he left in his cell while he secreted himself to the corridor, leaving the jail while the guards were making examinations of the cells for the night. Bloodhounds were put upon his track and at one time they were in sight of him, when he jumped into a field and ran into a flock of sheep, thus deceiving them and crossed the Missouri River and made his way to Chicago, remaining a few days. From there he started south, intending to seek a hiding place in the mountains of Tennessee near Gallatin, where he was raised and where his mother still lives. He was found under the bed in his hotel at Caseyville. He admitted that he was the man wanted and said that if he had been armed he would have killed both Dyer and Spencer. Turlington was taken to Morganfield,Ky., this evening and placed in jail to await the arrival of the officers from Missouri. Fearing a mob on his arrival at Boonville,Turlington sent a message to the Governor of Missouri notifying him of his arrest and asked the state for protection. A reward of $1,300 was offered for his arrest.

I had to find out what happened to him so I did a little research and found out Turlington made one more escape from the Boonville jail by cutting a hole in the ceiling in his cell, climbing up and over the roof where he stole the sheriff's horse. He was caught later that evening and eventually hanged in the jail yard.
