True, about MASS. Actually upstate NY has LOTS of real estate bargains, might
come out ahead overall, for 15 yrs or so, even with high real estate taxes.

Also, NY is very tax friendly, overall, for retired seniors and the Adirondacks and Finger Lakes area in particular, are among the most beautiful places in the world, much less the USA.

Lake George is widely considered the most beautiful body of water in the world and is a favorite of the euro super-rich. particulary the Swiss.

Have friends that live in Cheyenne, very windy and not alot of tress around out with the city, does not look like my cup of tea though I do like MN.

Good mule deer hunting in WY though and in MN (whitetail)

I guess that's fair, Scotslass. I have not been to Cheyenne, only northern and eastern Wyoming. I really love it there.

Wingfoot, I have not been to Lake George. I understand that area is quite beautiful.

quote=poptones;11575251]Happiness is a state of mind. Our family recently became a "statistic" when it came out that my 15 year old niece was expecting. Once we got past the shock and heartbreak of realizing she can't be a little girl forever, we couldn't be happier. She was a great student and we expect her to finish, hopefully even with her dream of being a vet. Mom an dad's little girl is going to have a little girl and we can't wait!

I agree, there are so many variables with happiness, granted however there may be factors in a certain region which may make people more unhappy such as unemployment, housing prices and commute time, and the value for what you get in return, pollution, schools, connections, home maintenance costs, etc as well as personal circumstances and decisions.

Just wanted to say that... just because. With all the bad stuff being said in some discussions here I think it's important to remember that sometimes we see problems only because that's all the others around us want to see.

I love pickles![/quote]

I think we were dumped on recently as one of the fattest states if not the fattest so this thread made me wonder that if large people overeat because it makes them happy then right there tells you these polls are bunk. We are a bunch fat happy people (and a few sassy ones) and if you don't like it git your skinny tail outta here.

No offense to anyone, but states at the bottom of this list seem to have the perfect combination of poverty, low education, generally crappy weather, "unenlightened" state and local governments, and a lack of cultural amenities.

I've never thought of Indiana or Ohio as poor, poorly educated, having crappy weather (though that point I can see), or unenlightened. Lack of cultural amenities is debatable, I guess. Then again, I've never lived in Indiana or Ohio.

Indiana is Illinois without Chicago lol.

A poll with less than ten percent spread over 50 samples is pretty much meaningless. It either means everyone in the country is pretty much equally happy, or equally miserable.
