"And I hope Anita Bryant never ever sings one of my songs."

That's what I'll always remember him for. And it's a great epitaph, proving, for me, that he truly was one of the good guys. His songs are virtually the only Pop Oldies I'll tolerate, and don't mind having stuck in my head.

Safe journey, Jimmy Buffett...

What I want to know is, did he ever pay the mini-mart back?

JB was a son of the laissez-faire Gulf Coast (born in Pascagoula, raised in Mobile). Although he was a liberal, there was something conservative about his character. He played for years in Gulf Coast bars before hitting it big. He didn’t get on the Internet and tear other people down like a lot of celebrities do in order to “build up their brand”. He didn’t refuse to play in Mississippi because of who its citizens vote for. He didn’t insult fans who didn’t vote like he did.
