West Bloomington is very run down and generally getting the tired old feeling. The apartment building that I am currently in I would generalise as getting more and more unsafe every year. The police always seem to be here and there has been a lot of crime in this building.
I am looking for a fresh new suburb, where family is a huge priority. I work in the Edina area and would not really like to move furthur than Apple Valley.

EP and AV are both fine. Where will you be working? You will want to pick something close to that. We are partial to the 196 schools but EP is good as well.
I agree with Golfgal. EP is rife with rundown landscaping. Generally the dead lawns will be accompanied by a "Barack Obama" yard sign (liberals and their "global warming"...).

As a rule, I would recommend avoiding the southside altogether. It seems to be entering a period of suburban decay, marked by a sharp increase in youth violence. I.E., that kid in Woodbury who was going to kill his neighbor, the kid in Rosemount who killed another kid over a girl, and didn't an ep student recently get all coked-up and kill someone(s) in a car accident? So sending your kid to schools in the south metro may not be the best idea. To be safe, I would consider something more along the lines of a Maple Grove or one of those other "up-and-coming" northern/northwestern suburbs. What do you think, Golfgal?

I would say this is pretty much what I think since you asked.

Blaine, and the surrounding citys actually has pretty good schools. there's about 4 around me within 5 miles, there's also a lot of highschools, Blaine, SLP, and Coon Rapids. Although Coon Rapids is pretty dity, and full of a lot of drugs, and bad students. Blaine is actually one of the biggest schools in district 11. It's a really great school. You can also go to High School half the day, then attend STEP, and get college credits and you don't even have to pay! It's wonderful.

I wouldn't say that Eden Prairie is bad. I prefer south of the river and district 196 schools.
