Hey all,
After several months of planning our move, and changing our mind a million times along the way, it's crunch time! My husband and I have job opportunities in both Mankato and around the Fort Snelling area. We have to choose SOON and want to choose based on best location for a family, not the salary of the jobs. My question is: "which is the better choice to raise a family?" If we chose the jobs in Fort Snelling I would look at the Eagan area probably for a house. I know both cities are wonderful, but I just can't decide. Can anyone offer any expertise?

Tough choice but I would go with Eagan over Mankato. Both are great places but Mankato is pretty much it around there and you have to drive close to 2 hours to get to anything else. The offerings educationally, socially and intellectually are much greater in the metro area, obviously.

Eagan, especially in the 196 district, is a more financially sound school system and that really can make a difference for your kids. Just something else to think about.

If you want more of a small town feel yet close to Fort Snelling look into Hastings and Rosemount. Both are easy commutes to Fort Snelling and have more of a small town less suburbany feel.
