I will be moving to Owatonna sometime this fall and I was wondering if anyone could give me some details about it--crime, education, taxes, the "bad" part of town, that sort of thing.

I'm from the midwest so the winters will be nothing new to me.

My BIL is a police officer in Owatonna. They don't have any real major crime problems, schools are pretty good, they seem happy with them. It is a nice town all the way around. There are blocks here and there that have some houses that aren't very well kept but those are pretty easy to figure out just by driving by them. It has pretty much everything you need for day to day living. I don't know about taxes but my guess is that they are reasonable for MN.

How's the Medicaid in the state of Minnesota? I'm currently a Missouri resident and I wouldn't recommend anyone applying for state assistance here because my caseworker retired and my food stamps "expired", leaving me without any food stamps for this month. I found out all this when I tried to contact my caseworker a few days ago and her extension was disconnected! Thankfully, I have family and friends that can help me until I get my food stamps back and who knows how long that will take. I was never contacted by mail, phone or e-mail letting me know that my caseworker was retiring and I would be assigned to someone else. I've been disabled for many years and this has never happened to me in the other states I've lived in! What an outrage and what if I had kids?!?
