You want diversity, you have many directions you can go. The Mall of America is DROWNING in diversity! Tiny tots of every conceivable ethnic group. And probably you'll not be able to go shopping locally without encountering a whole bunch. New immigrants have jobs everywhere.

eden prairie is a good move, i think youll like it.

Minnetonka is nicer and has better schools than Eagan.

Eagan is cheaper and has lower taxes.

$480,000 doesn't buy much in Minnetonka, that is where my parents live.

It depends on what you want. If it were me, I would probably live in Eagan if I had no kids and would live in a nicer home with lower taxes in Dakota county instead of the high tax hennipen county.

But Eden Prairie could be a greater value than either. Again far from the airport (although there is a small general aviation field out there). Median house price is middle 200s. Can't match that in Minnetonka, I'm sure. Median income $119,000. This is an interesting article I knew nothing about: Best Places to Live 2010 - Top 100: City details: Eden Prairie, MN - from MONEY Magazine

I think Plymouth offers more than EP on almost every count, but am also sure you'd be happy enough in just about any of the cities mentioned.

I was just on 494 going from EP to S. Minneapolis today. RIDICULOUS traffic. Freight trucks crawling along at 5mph or less. I wouldn't locate anywhere if commuting on 494 was a necessity daily. All day long the traffic is bad.

I would probably take 212 to 62 to 35W from Eden Prairie to South Minneapolis.

Those ideas are not original. LOTS of people are taking 62. Ergo, jammed up there, too. What I ended up doing was taking 100 to Highway 7, following that to Lake Street, the veering to 28th because Lake Street is a zoo. Should have veered to 31st Street. Utility and construction work on 28th Street.

I gave a link to MNDOT cameras. I think I'll use it to see what traffic is like on different arteries. During rush hour, you can do that on most local channels by their traffic reports. But I know I don't want to travel during those hours.
