As I'm looking out my window, I see 6 turkeys that have made our home their home. They've been here for almost 2 months now and even my Alaskan Malamutes are so used to them they don't even chase them away anymore. They (the turkeys) follow us everywhere, just like a puppy dog. They've also been chasing cars and trucks. The town folks have made this a daily drive by just to see the turkeys. Been lots of fun, watching them chase themselves around the yard, trees and roof. Yes, they're even on the roof.

I've heard that the DNR released a bunch of them around the woods here. Anyone else hear this?

Susie

It looks like you're up in Remer. I haven't seen turkeys that far north, but I have seen them around Motley. It is amazing how much they've spread in the last few years!

I never saw wild turkeys until I moved to Michigan, they are neat to watch. That they follow you around like dogs is hilarious! Enjoy them and the babies in the spring.

My Roseville hotel had a turkey camp out in our courtyard last week. She was huge, and pooped all over! After a couple days the novelty wore off and one of our building engineers escorted her out to the parking lot, where I saw her clucking about a bit later. By next morning she'd flown back into the courtyard! Our staff was starting to sharpen their hatchets, so she took the hint and finally flew the coop, so to speak.

this "rafter" of turkeys showed up in our yard one Thanksgiving Day a couple years ago.

Willy our cat was not too phased by them and instead was waiting for Mr Gopher to make an appearance.

Last year in Minneapolis, I couldn't believe how many I saw. I know one day while waiting for the bus, I saw a few turkeys holding up traffic as they crossed the street! Pretty crazy!

WOW! My husband is never going to believe this! It's really the year of the turkey! And yes, there's poop everywhere, including on top of my husband's semi-truck.

Ugh bird poop. I hadn't even thought of that. So are turkeys somewhat of a rarity in MN? We have quite a few here in Northern MI but I never saw them when I lived in VA. I love to see them on the side of back roads. I will pull over and the kids will gobble at them and then sing 'gravy, gravy, gravy, potatoes' at them. Then they usually gobble back. I grew up in a big city so the most wild thing I saw were turtles or frogs.

I've lived in MN since 1998, the first several years in Northern MN near the border and this is the first time I've seen wild turkeys. Our home up north was in a very remote area and we had everything else...but no turkeys.

Wild Turkey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I just looked at this wiki and it shows that Northern MN isn't in their normal limit. ( I guess I could have looked there first, I just assumed they were everywhere-lol) They still are neat looking and bring a smile to my face oh and porcipines. They are seriously cool looking. I made my husband turn back around so I could get a better look at one that was roadkill. Imagine some lady getting out of a mini van and poking a dead porcipine with a stick. My husband still teases me about it.
