When I think of lakes, I think of:

Brainerd
Grand Rapids
Ely
Bemidji
Walker
Alexandria
Park Rapids
Detroit Lakes
Fergus Falls

And all the little towns in between

I would add the Willmar/Spicer area to that list as well.

I always think of triangular areas that are "Lake Country" areas to me: Fergus Falls, Alexandria and Detroit Lakes would be one area, Bemidji, Walker, Grand Rapids is another; Motley, Pine River, Onamia is another; Willmar, Litchfield, and Sunburg is another area; and Duluth, International Falls and Grand Marais is the last area I used to consider Lake Country (outside of the Metro area, that is). Now-a-days I'd throw in the New Ulm, Mankato, and Faribault area too; but I haven't decided if Lake Pepin counts as a lake or a river yet (but I still lean to it being a river no matter what its' name is!).

To me, each of those Lake Country areas had a very distinct personality; but then again, that's because when I was young we visited our relatives in each of those areas and none of my relatives were alike either!
