Hi, I recently accepted a job in downtown west, minneapolis. I've never been there, and was hoping for suggestions on safe neighborhoods. I don't have a car, so public transit to work is an issue. Thanks

Mpls. and the metro have alot of options. Do you prefer the city proper, or more suburban areas. A top price range? It would be easier to help if you expand a little more. I'll try here. Carlessness is hard here compared to the East Coast, Chicago, etc. It is certainly doable, however. The best tran. is obviously in the city. Here is a map of the metro system http://metrotransit.com/sysmap/map_system.pdf (broken link)
hopefully that and Edina Realty or Craigslist can help narrow some options. I'd love to help more, but that question is more than I can chew.

You really can't go wrong as far as safety is concerned. This is a very safe city to live in. As for going without a car. Just live somewhere near downtown. I live in uptown and you can ride a bike downtown faster than you can drive there.

Safety is the biggest concern, I was thinking about Loring Park or Uptown, I will actually be coming June 9th or 10th. Thanks

Both are pretty safe, use your city smarts and you will be fine. The only major problems are burglaryish and car crimes. Uptown is more gentrified, bit has everything you would need. Loring Park is the trad. gay area. Pretty much everything you need. Both areas has a good range of housing prices. Most of the area was built in the teens and twenties. Super-convenient to the city. You could prob. walk to work from Loring, theres a high-frequency bus on Hennepin for Uptown. No car should be no big problem. Again, post us if there are any more questions and welcome to Mpls.
