Hello,

Are there any significant differences between Rosemount High School and Eastview Highschool in terms of academic oppurtunities offered( Advance Placement courses, quality of teachers, facilities etc)?I've read that Eastview has a much overall better ranking.

thank you.

I don't know- I do know that Apple Valley High's student enrollment has steadily declined for the past 4 years (see Apple Valley High will greet fewer students this fall). so I would be wary of their loss in per-pupil funding- not sure if a similar trend would start happening at Eastview or not.

It might be good to research what came about with all of the District 196 teacher and other budget cuts decided at the 4/13/2009 meeting mentioned in this article: (see [http://www.startribune.com/local/sou...?elr=KArksUUUU] - Rosemount district weighs millions in cuts)

THe cuts they are proposing are to make up for the lack of state funding that ALL the districts across the state will have to deal with in the upcoming years. The nice thing about the 196 schools is as a whole they are very financially healthy but with an anticipated 10 million less coming from the state, that would put a big dent in anyone's budget. Also, those cuts are not definite, they are completely dependent on what happens to the state budget. If the state comes through with their normal funding amounts the district won't have to cut anything, unlike Minneapolis and St. Paul that were already in financial straights and are closing schools and THEN they have to deal with the reduced funding from the state.

Apple Valley enrollment is declining because the population of Apple Valley is getting older, however, Rosemount's population is expected to double and the overall district numbers will remain fairly constant.

To be honest, Apple Valley High School is not the best at providing high level education. Sure the staff are amazing and intend to support students throughout their high school. But if you want a school that is challenging and willing to put you through a rigorous test of your knowledge. Eastview High School is the best school at provide this educational opportunity. All schools have students that are left behind (mainly because they are not the top performing students), However, EVHS has a wide variety of opportunities for the students to improve and catch up to their peers. Also, another school that I suggest looking at would be Eagan High School. Based on their ranking in Minnesota, you are open to 4 top notch high schools in ISD 196. Eastview ranking 6th in academics, and Eagan ranking 13th in academics. And again, all four schools in ISD 196 have pros and cons, so I suggest doing some more in depth research yourself.

(Creditably: Personally understanding the system and education first hand. Went to AVHS for 2 years then transferred over to another high school in the district)

Last edited by AVHS2016; 01-06-2015 at 03:08 PM.. Reason: I messed up on the Eastview ranking (Correct ranking is 6th and not 3rd)

My 2 kids went to 3 of the 5 high schools in 196.

Daughter attended Eagan HS for 2 years and then the School of Environmental Studies for 2 years. She loved SES (known as the "zoo school"). We moved to Rosemount and our son attended Rosemount HS.

Programs and quality of teaching will be similar at all the schools. The schools are quite different with Rosemount being much older than Eastview.

The major difference between the schools in regards to academic performance can be totally explained by demographics of the families within each school border. Apple Valley HS skews toward the lowest economic households in 196 and Eastview the highest. The students of more affluent parents do better than those of lower economic means. Rosemount & Eagan are somewhere in the middle.

All of 196 is better off economically than most of its neighboring districts, with the exception of Lakeville, which leads to 196 having better school statistics. Edina is the #1 district in the state because they have lots of affluent parents.
