I've been looking at rental houses in South Saint Paul, around 1st Ave South, and was curious what the area was like? I currently live in the Northern Suburbs (New Brighton) and I have a very good handle of the areas around there, but have not a clue about the southern areas. Any insights?

We've driven around and seen a couple properties...it seems like an ok area on the surface, but it would be great to get some unbiased opinions about the area.

The last stock yards closed last month, but that is what South Saint Paul is always going to be ubiquitously known for. It is a blue-collar area, safe, good schools. Convenient to that part of the metro, a nice housing stock and a little bit of a Main Street. I have a good opinion of it.

1st Ave S where? If it is south of 494, not a great area. If it is N of 494 ok area. In SSP you really want to be W of 7th and N of Southview for the most part.

looking at homes around Kaposia park in SSP seems like a very nice safe neighborhood but looks can be deceiving as well. Any input for this area at all?

Southview Blvd and Concord St are where you will find most of the stores and businesses in SSP.
