Does anyone have any feedback on Prior Lake? My husband drove through it today and thought it might be an option? Definitely a farther drive for him depending on which location he would need to travel to for work, but he really liked some of the houses (and prices) and thought the lake was nice.

That about sums it up: nice area, tough commute.

One other note is the schools are growing like crazy (1,000 kids in kindergarten) but the community has not been completely supportive of the tax increases necessary to keep up. Some parents we know in the district are frustrated with the pace of construction of new buildings and improvements.

It all depends on what you are looking for. It's a much more affordable lake than Minnetonka. This will either be a pro or a con to you, but prior lake government has taken the stance of shunning chain development within the city, which to some degree has stiffled the city. So if you live there, many of the amenities are a drive away in Savage. I think on paper this was intended to keep prior lake quaint and allow small boutiques to thrive.....in reality there's a lot of pull tab bars and liquor stores. Do also note that it's near mystic lake casino, so you will deal with the casino crowd/through traffic as well.

Lastly, to second another, I know they built a new high school that is already dealing with overcrowding because Burnsville parents are sending their kids there. Not sure the outcome of that, just a topic I've seen in the news a few times.

Thanks so much for the feedback on prior lake. I definitely don’t like the sound of overcrowded schools...still plan on driving through when we arrive next week just to explore. We have increased our home search to include the entire 196 SD and have seen some nice options in Apple valley and Rosemount. I’m hoping they will have the same feel as Eagan had for my family?

We ended up visiting Golden Ridge stables in Lakeville and my daughter fell in love with it! Thanks for that recommendation, as well!

Have lived in both Eagan and apple valley and can confirm they have the same family feel. Eagan is just a bit closer to things, but otherwise very similar

Default Thanks and an update

Thanks again for all the great feedback! We ended up landing in Rosemount (close to pilot knob and diamond path) and will move end of next month. We are excited to spend the next month exploring our new area!

Late here, but I think you will like Rosemount. This city has a good reputation on this board.

I love all the trees, and the high school is well known for its marching bands and many other bands.
