We are looking at this district but I have one concern. We are pretty laid back non-showy people and my worst fear would be in a place where money is everything. I know that the W. Subs have a lot of money, but are all the people snooty? Is my child going to be going to school with a bunch of snots? I don't mean this to sound harsh but I just want to avoid this at all costs. We want a great school district but also want to be able to teach our son that money is not everything.

Short answer is yes. There are many kids that drive BMW's and fancy cars in Wayzata and yes there is quite a bit of keeping up with the Jones' that goes on. I don't think Wayzata is as bad as Eden Prairie in that respect though.

That is one thing I really like about the Rosemount schools is that you don't have that kind of pressure from other kids--not that there aren't some kids like that here, for the most part there you do not have those issues.

It's not? Gosh I can't imagine what EP's like then.

The Hopkins district, which you might be in should you decide to move to Plymouth, has a blend of income levels.

It's up to YOU to teach your son that money isn't everything...not the school. My kid went to Wayzata High School and drove a beat up 10 year old Pontiac. He wore clothes from the resale shop and didn't care what others thought. He was one of the most popular and respected kids there. Want your kid to have a good education? You'll get it there.

I feel that it is all relative. Wayzata is not nearly as snotty as the coasts, or even Chicago. Wayzata High pulls from middle-class areas also. It is one of the City's richest suburbs, but the Cities really aren't all that snotty. This is the only place in the country where a doctor would feel perfectly comfortable driving a Honda. Even though it is far richer, you will get more Jones problems in Eden Prairie, et cetera because it is new money. New money always has to prove itself. So I suppose you would be among the Joness, but not feel forced to be one of them.

If you end up in Hopkins then you'll have to keep up with me. You don't want that.

I agree with all the posters.. Yes your child will see a lot of kids with brand new cars, house on the lake etc. BUT not ALL kids that go there will be rich. There is a big middle class population that goes there as well.

Thank you all for your response. I know that I am responsible for showing him that money is not all that it important. I just want to make sure that he will not be out of place, that is all.

I just want him to have a good experience and have a great education.
