I am looking for houses right now and have been looking around in the Corcoran neighborhood of the Powderhorn community. Could anybody here tell me about the neighborhood from living there or spending alot of time there? I have already seen the crime stats of the area and I'm aware of everything surrounding it geographically (South high school, Matt's Bar, The Chatterbox Pub, Corcoran park, etc. I am just looking for peoples' personal experiences/stories in that area.

a friend of mine owned a house there for several years. His house got broken into once but from my understanding he knew the person who did it. Other than that, he had no issues.

none of his are either. Anyway, that part is moot. Point being, aside from that it was quiet.

Default Corcoran

I am a corcoran resident and work at the Corcoran Neighborhood Organization. It is a great community with connected neighbors. I have been working here for 6 years so I know a lot about what goes on.

It's a done deal, in a month's time I will be out of the suburbs and back in the city representing the Corcoran neighborhood in the Powderhorn community. Yup, as of a few days ago I am officially a first-time home owner

Hi- I sold my house there a few years ago. It was an okay neighborhood for a first house but had a little trouble selling it. Not as a desirable neighborhood as Nokomis. Next time I would buy above 42th Street.

I'll definitely be getting fat off of Chatterbox burgers as well as Juicy Luicys from Matt's Bar and and not to mention all the delicious Mexican food right off Lake Street there.

Oh, and I'm completely aware of the generic south Minneapolis real estate rule of thumb for the area east of 35W. Stay south of 38th Street or west of Hiawatha Avenue. This is alot of speculation on my part but I believe the Corcoran area will continue to improve with the Lake Street redevelopment, light rail expansion and a growing interest for people to move into the city as opposed to sprawling further out into the outer tier suburbs and wasting hours each day on their commute to work and school. Everything you could ever want is right here in the city. However, I'm planning on staying in this house for quite a while so resale potential isn't an issue at this time.
