The job market in the Twin Cities has been quite strong over the last few years. Has anyone noticed any change downward since the mortgage and credit meltdown of the last few months? Are there fewer jobs?

Well, I just got a job offer today, so it can't be too bad.

It depends on what type of jobs you're talking about. There has been a significant decrease in entry level (except retail/ hospitality) and production/ manufacturing positions in the area. The job market for professional positions (e.g. requiring some type of degree) I would consider to still be pretty strong. But there is a lot of competition for any job out on the market today, entry level positions generally receive hundreds of apps, entry level 2 or 4 yr degree positions generally receive a minimum 40 - 50 (if not much more) apps- especially ones that are either in the city or on public transit routes.

Back in 1997, there were so many jobs that if a someone didn't have one then they were either too lazy to get one or just didn't want one. About two years before I left it seemed impossible to find anything.

Thanks for the input. I'm looking at administrative support jobs, and there seems to be many of them, at least from the postings on various job websites. I just wondered if folks had noticed a shrinkage since the meltdown in the last few months.

It will depend on how many years of experience you have. If you are entry level, you will compete with people who have 5+ years of experience for those jobs. The market sucks in my opinion for any business professionals.

Good luck!
