Looking at moving for a job. Can anyone tell me anything about the city. From different websites, it seems like a really nice city.

It's 15-20 minutes south of Minneapolis. I don't actually live there, but we were strongly considering moving to MN last year, and out of all the towns we visited, Lakeville was our favorite. Great location off of the interstate for quick access to MSP, very clean, nice neighborhoods, and a quaint little downtown. Close to Mall of America and the airport as well. I'm sure the locals can tell you much more, but we liked it a lot during the short time we were there.

jryanh10,

First of all, congrats on your new job opportunity! We hope you move to Minnesota! I don't know much about Lakeville, but it looks like there's a ton of information on their website and other websites. Pretty neat that it's been voted #4 by Frommers as best place to raise a family.

Is the job in Lakeville? Have you thought about what kind of house you'd want? Budget? Square footage? Number of bedrooms? Depending on where your job is and what kind of house you're looking for, you might want to look at Rosemount and Apple Valley as well. Both are great communities pretty close by.

All best,

Michael

Also, I see you're coming from Georgia. I lived there for 20 years, and can pretty much assure you that housing is more expensive in the MSP area, including Lakeville. It's not DC or LA expensive by any means, but definitely moreso than GA.

I lived in Lakeville for many years, as a teenager, mind you. It is a nice, clean suburb with convenient access to the airport and downtown, even though it is a fairly long drive -- ~20-25 miles from downtown Minneapolis. If you'll be working south of the river, it is an ideal location. I really can't say anything bad about it. It has good schools, good parks, and good public services. Due to my parent's job situation, we moved from Lakeville to the Atlanta area about 3 years ago. If you have more questions, I'll be glad to help.
