I'm considering a new job in Eden Prairie. I live in the Como Park area of St. Paul. I was wondering what the typical rush hour commute times were. I made it to the interview in 40 minutes, but that was non rush hour. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I guess you would be going against rush hour for some part of it. So that would help a bit. But yeah it will be at least 40 minutes. Up to you if you want to spend an hour a day in the car, like music, listen to talk radio or get audio books?

Where in EP? What route did you take to get there for the interview?

golfgal,
Right where 494 turns from west to north (Prairie Ctr. Dr.). I took 494 thru Bloomington over.

I think you can find routes that will get you there in 40 minutes or less even with traffic since a lot of your commute would be going against traffic (say 35 to the Crosstown and over). I guess it just depends on how much of your day you want to give up to a commute and if they salary is worth it. If you are renting you could move closer to EP eventually too. 494 is always backed up .

Yes. Lexington.

I think I'll be trying the 35W to Crosstown route.

Drive it during rush hour sometime. Crosstown= parking lot. The other day I had to go on the Crosstown during rush hour. Hwy 55 to 100 was 30 minutes. No snow. This will probably be a one hour commute for you as there's no good way into EP. Both 62 and 494 are very congested in both directions at rush hour, and if you chose to go 394 and then south, you have the issue of getting through the Lowry tunnel. The job may be worth it, but let's not sugarcoat it. The drive is going to be a pistol.

But getting on the Crosstown at 35 going west won't be that bad as you miss a lot of the worst part of the backup. From 35 to about France it can be pretty slow but after that it picks up quite a bit. Even taking 35 down to 494 won't be as bad as taking 494 all the way around since traffic lightens up after 35.

A daily commute from St. Paul to Eden Prairie is going to be painful and will probably take at least an hour each way, unless you can start your commutes at about 5 AM and return home at about 3 PM. The population on the west side of the metro is much higher than the east metro. So the traffic density tends to be much higher has you go to the west metro.
