I will be moving to the Minneapolis-St Paul area this year and will be attending the University of Minnesota, specifically on the East Bank. Would anyone know the best neighborhoods I should be looking for in that area in terms of safety and closeness to campus? I am looking for a 1 bedroom/studio for up to 900 dollars a month. Thanks!

Are you a grad student? Prospect Park or Seward.

Isn't there also a TON of new construction going up in that area? I imagine a lot of new apartments will be coming online either later this year or early next year, which SHOULD drive the supply up and prices of older apartments down a bit....one would think.

There's a ton of construction of those fancy 'apartment/condo' things right next to the U (Stadium Village) and also Dinkytown. There's one new one on University Ave (M Flats) but I haven't seen too much penetration into Prospect Park yet.

The reason I asked if you were a grad student is that you can get access to grad student housing that is very cheap - a one bedroom that is ~$600. It is in a nice neighborhood but you will have to take a bus (free) or city bus to the East Bank (~10-15 min).

There are a LOT on the drawing board and many have approvals, but aren't quite U/C.

I believe it with the light rail coming in. There are bunches of properties for sale along that stretch of road.
