As long time residents may know parts of Seward, Phillips, and neighboring areas had arsenic soil contamination from a pesticide plant on Hiawatha. Here is one OLD link, EPA finds dangerous levels of arsenic on 18 Seward properties | Twin Cities Daily Planet You can google around for more...

We are making an offer in on a house in Seward that was EPA remediated in the early/mid 90s. All the dirt in the backyard was dug out to 12-18 inches and replaced. The small front yard tested clean.

We are waiting for documentation from the seller which should show original and remediated levels. My take is with remediation we are better off than "clean" sites in the area. The current owners have a large garden in the back yard so they clearly aren't concerned.

Does anyone here have any experience with this or thoughts.

Up in NE Mpls there used to be a vermiculite plant at around Washington and 20th; asbestos from the plant was found all over the neighborhood, and the EPA did extensive work to clean it up in the 90's.

That's why I cringe when I see inner city garden like under freeway overpass or people picking raspberries along bike trails. I saw a lady picking raspberries right next to a foundry on midtown greenway.
