Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if there is a listserv (GoogleGroup, YahooGroup, etc.) for the Mac-Groveland area?

I've just moved from the DC area and found my neighborhood listserv there essential -- for finding babysitters, recommendations for a roofer, had cuttings from a hosta plant I wanted to give away, and a million other things. Forums like these are useful but it's often helpful to have a way to ask advice from people who are in a more concentrated geographic area than this.

I've searched extensively and have emailed some locals (including the Mac-Groveland Community Council) about one in my new 'hood, but have only found a Facebook group (essentially inactive) and a few forums to discuss city issues. Does anyone here know of something I'm missing?

If I don't find something in the next few days, I'll create my own. But I don't want to duplicate efforts if one already exists.

Thanks very much!

If there were actually a concentration of Mac-Groveland residents here on this website, then yes, it would serve the purpose. But there aren't. Hence my question.

I'm a former Mac Groveland resident. What's your question?

I think the respondents are either missing the point or being a little too snarky.

When I lived in Seattle lots of neighborhoods had vibrant blogs like My Ballard » News, events and restaurants in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood or Fremont Universe » A news blog for Seattle's Fremont Neighborhood. These are great for finding out about local events of little interest to the wider community. Its great to have somewhere to ask whats going on with that derelict house on your street, find out about park clean-ups and pancake fund raisers, etc.

I am a little surprised that I haven't found the same thing for Uptown or other neighborhoods in the TCs. I think the OPs idea of starting one himself could be a great service especially with a more open web based format.

I think there are some blogs like you are talking about. Uptown has one, I think. I have to assume Mac-Groveland has one, since that would be the most likely candidate for a neighborhood blog I've ever seen. Neighborhood blogs are a great idea. A friend of mine in Brooklyn learns a lot about new local restaurants or subleases in his neighborhood this way. Oh, but FORMER residents of a neighborhood are not welcome on the neighborhood blogs, as they are no longer relevant and their historical perspective is generally deemed useless.

Is there a Mac-Groveland listserv or neighborhood-specific online group now? I haven't been able to find one either.

There is a Mac Groveland Neighborhood group on facebook -- you can search for it there and then ask to be approved as a member. This is what you are looking for.

There are forums for most Minneapolis and St. Paul neighborhoods through the e-Democracy site. Here's the Mac-Groveland one:
forums.e-democracy.org/groups/stpaul-macgrove

(Sorry, I've never posted here before, so I can't post links yet.)

There's not a ton of posting going on from what I can see. I follow the Highland Park forum, which doesn't get too many postings unless there's a controversial issue being discussed. There's also a general St. Paul forum.
