I have a ton of friends that work for corporate and in the stores. From what they all tell me and most are women is that it's a great place to work for. It's like SC&Johnson and Acuity and Northwestern Mutual where they are consistently ranked as the best places to work in Wisconsin.
Kohls I know promotes from within and you can start out as a teller there and work your way up to district manger and even further.
Thank you. I have to say that I've heard differently. I heard that they put a lot of long hours on you. I've heard that they aren't flexible. I admit that this was a while ago...I just wanted to get more current updates.
I assume you're talking about the department store? MC's comment about tellers is throwing me off. I worked a temp stint through the X-mas season once and it was alright. They started me out a little higher on the pay scale than others, which was flattering. I ended up impulse buying though, with the discount they offer employees.
They put me in jewelry, which was fine, until they expected me to fix and adjust peoples watches, which I really wasn't qualified for. I am not mechanically inclined.
Once during a mad rush, my watch said break time so I proceeded to bolt. They had plenty of people working the counter, including a manager, and I didn't think I needed direct permission. I think they may have frowned on that. Their schedule only required me to work every other weekend so it wasn't bad.
I always thought the team rah-rah cheer at the end of the night was kinda cute.

While I haven't worked for Kohl's, they have been my customer in a variety of sales positions that I've had over several years. Their employees are overworked and underpaid and they treat their vendors very poorly. They have been rude and arrogant, and due to my experience, I would never work there or even want them as a client again. I'm not sure if it would be different working in one of their store locations, but my experience has been working with the corporate location.
I heard in corporate they do work you long, hard hours - i know this just because i worked for corporate for a kohl's competitor which is hq'ed downtown. but if someone doesn't want to work long, hard hours maybe a corporate job isn't the right place to be looking.
An ex-girlfriend worked for corporate and worked long hours and traveled a lot. Granted she had a good position and that would be expected anywhere.
