Milwaukee's downtown is anything BUT bad. It is lacking a couple of things but it's not bad.

I've been guilty of focusing my time around the East Side. My only views of downtown and the vicinity were either on final approach or departure from the airport, and I'd catch a glimpse from the airport shuttle on I-794 when going past, but that was it. Last time I was in the city, I spent time downtown and along the river. I couldn't believe what's happened in the last two years, and right under my nose. It wasn't bad at that time, but it's gotten even better.

And yes, anyone who likes to drink, has plenty of options in Milwaukee. From the dirtiest corner dump, to places that rival just about any nice lounge in any other city.

Yes, we will have a car!! So, that makes it easier at least! We don't want to miss fabulous things or places people always tell their out-of-town friends to go!!

Default its been a while now...

BUT! I had the chance to spend about 5 days in MKE the summer of 98...summerfest was cool....downtown Milwaukee seemed as safe and welcoming as could be

there was a GREAT bar called the safe house...still open? coolest different kinda bar i'd ever been to, and you BET i still know the password!! there also was a KILLER 50's type lounge bar that served big crazy drinks....it was across the 'bridge to nowhere' (thats what the people i was with who are from there called it)

Milwaukee showed me a good time the one chance I got to visit...

Downtown MKE is NOT dangerous. I migrated here from one of the most dangerous cities in the US and this place is a walk in the park in comparison (I live downtown too). If panhandlers coming on too strongly is considered crime then I may be mistaken.
