Especially the area around Bradley & Teutonia, and the area near the high school/library?

And as far as I know(from this website's evidence), no murders since 1999. Crime levels in general are also below the national average.

Worst thing that I have heard of is a guy got shot in the leg at 3 a.m a couple years ago, but then again he was a drug dealer (I have met that guy before).

There are 12 municipalities in Milwaukee County that directly border the city. Here they are ranked by normalized crime rate per this website from least to most in crimes per capita:

South Milwaukee: 144.2
Oak Creek: 176.6
Shorewood: 182.6
St. Francis: 204.4
Greenfield: 221.4
Brown Deer: 226.5
Wauwatosa: 258.8
Greendale: 262.1
Cudahy: 278.6
Glendale: 318.2
West Allis: 358.0
West Milwaukee: 591.2

This data is from 2008, so it's pretty recent. The U.S. average is 320.9. I calculated the Milwaukee suburban average (using only those listed above) as 260.2.

Now obviously not all crimes are equal and different factors lead to these larger numbers for certain locations. Clearly retail theft, the most common offense, isn't going to affect the average resident one iota. The numbers for West Milwaukee, West Allis, Glendale, Greendale, Wauwatosa, Greenfield and even Brown Deer and Oak Creek are somewhat inflated due to their statuses as mini retail hubs for their residents and those of the surrounding locales. The crime they exhibit is oftentimes directly related to the activity they attract.

So yeah, Brown Deer is relatively as safe as any other comparable community.
