Really? This is something I would expect in Mississippi, not Michigan.

I was just watching the Toledo news this morning. Last night in Toledo a family who was supposedly celebrating Christmas got into an alcohol-fueled brawl that resulted in a stabbing. Can't celebrate those holidays without alcohol, I guess.

I'm okay with alcohol not being sold on Christmas, but that's just me.

Actually it's from 9pm Christmas Eve until 7am the day after Christmas. I didn't realize you had a problem with me buying alchohol on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. What business is it of yours?

And the family from Toledo would have stabbed each other no matter when alcohol sales were allowed.

The law was actually passed in 1998, and it only applies to Christmas. You can buy alcohol on Easter Sunday after 12:00 (like any other Sunday).

And why the frick is the state meddling in religion?

I lived in Michigan from 1964 - 2004 and the "No Christmas Booze" thing was in effect the whole time.

I remember the "No Sunday" rule too. I think that was changed in the late '70's....

I heard that MI has a couple of dry counties; don't know which ones as I have no reason to go....

These laws are holdovers from the bible thumper days. Now it's more of a tradition. More or less gives the bartenders and servers the day off.

Stock up!

As long as I can remember alcohol sales have been banned on religious holidays. If they changed the law in '98 it must have been to open it up on days other than Christmas. Not that I think it's right, the state shouldn't be bowing to religious pressures.
