I had a friend who worked for the Mackinac Center. After about 4 years there, he quit a job he loved and took a $10,000/yr paycut to move back to the Detroit suburbs. That's how much he hated Midland. Since you asked for thoughts, there's one thought for you, backed with enough conviction that its originator put his money where his mouth was. Take it for what you think it's worth.
Yeah, that doesn't really mean much.

You can go to some of the nicest cities in the U.S. and you will find people that hate it and are taking pay cuts to leave and move back home or somewhere else.

It all depends on the person. You can't dismiss a town because someone moved away from it.

Nor can you embrace it because someone loves it. A glowing review is no more valid for being glowing, and someone looking for thoughts on a place deserves to hear from all angles.

Thanks to Dow, the population is a bit diverse for its small size, but there is nothing to do. DO NOT EXPECT BIG CITY AMMENITIES. If you want the feel of a large city, go to Detroit or even Chicago or Cleveland. oh yeah, and the water smells. you may want to purchase bottled water.
That is the chlorine in the city water. If you mean well water, it depends on the area of Midland county. With the new well tecknowledgey, the problems are few.
