...then I think the Leland Wine & Food Festival on Sat. June 13 is the place to be. Up in the middle of NW wine country in Leelanau County north of Traverse City, this is one of my favorite Spring events. The Festival is held down in the Leland Harbor, right on the shore of Lake Michigan and next door to historic Fishtown. They have wineries from all over Leelanau and Old Mission, restaurants and food producers selling great chow, and music too. I've been going to this for years. A cool beach town and a very cool event.

Yours truly will be pouring wine for one of the vineyards. The Leland Wine & Food Festival was our first look at Northwestern Michigan 9 years ago. It was on that trip that we said we have to move up here

I think the quality of wines to be found in the State amazes people. When most people think of domestic wines, California comes to mind and that is a crying shame because the TC wines (as well as the rest of the state) are much better IMHO. Have fun up there and enjoy.

One of the nice things about this event is that vineyard owner and winemakers (sometimes the same person, sometimes not) are there to tell you about their wines, offer some advice and answer questions. So many very fine wines (dozens to choose from at the festival) made in NW Michigan, and a lot of wine lovers have never even tried them. Can't beat the scenery either, eh? See you there Peter!
The guy on the far left, second row down is Madonna's (yes, that Madonna) dad, Tony Ciccone. He has a winery in Leelanau.

Have fun!

I stayed in Fishtown one glorious Fall weekend.

Took a winery tour, a couple of long walks on the beach, and there's a really cool restaurant with a deck right on the river. Watched the fish jump the waterfall as we were dining. Coho, I think.
