Well if the safest is in Copper Harbor and you work in Lambertville then while money is no object, I'll be willing to bet travel times would be. IF, and I highly doubt it, this is a legitimate question, then you have to narrow down WHERE the work assignment is before anybody could give you their thoughts on the safest in that area.

MANY places in Michigan are extremely safe. As in, walk down the streets by yourself at midnight counting 100 dollar bills and not have a problem, type safe.

I was born and raised in Michigan. The safest area with best schools and shopping is Farmington hills West Bloomfield area. Great place to settle and raise a family. I miss it..not the cold, but the conveniences.

Haven't been there in awhile have ya travelbonnie. Gotta get out more and read the crime blotters.

The police chief in FH is up to his eyebrows in assaults, drugs, DUI, and various other assorted criminal behavior.

At on point the chief was on the news nearly 3 times a week discussing another domestic murder, drug bust or innocent DUI victim run over in her car by a drunken white collar fool.

For awhile one feared even being in FH because chances of being a victim were much greater than any other suburb.

Not sure how the new chief is doing. The last one had so much publicity he was able to get a better paying job in Warren I think,,,where crime AND corruption rule.

Do you have a general are where you are assigned? Overall, the west side and northern parts of the state are very safe. The only places I would avoid on the west side would be Benton Harbor, and parts of Muskegon. There are not-so- pleasant areas of GR and KZoo, but you'll know those when you see them. My personal recommendation would be NW lower Mich. TC, Charlevoix, Petoskey areas.

This question is way too vague. I would say that 95% of the State is relatively safe, where you could spend your whole life and not be victim of a crime. You might live on 50 acres in the woods in Barry County and get shot by a crazed meth lab operator. Or, you could live in a walled-in compound off of Livernois and get hit by a car on your way to work.

There has to be other criteria for where you want to live other than "safest place in Michigan."???

Or Beaver Island. Hard to beat the security that comes with limited access. Would not want to winter on either of the islands, though.

If you want to be on the mainland, I'd say that Traverse City, Charlevoix or Petoskey would be hard to beat.

Hi all,
Sorry for not giving more info. I've lived in Southern California(orange county) all my life. in my 20's.. The work assignment is in detroit(fort st??)....I'm used to the horrible traffic in So.Cal, so I don't mind driving 20-30 min eacy way. I've never been to MI, have heard lots of good things and bad things(all safety issues)... I've heard lots about royal oak(which by looking at the map is 20 min drive from my work)...Is royal oak safe for a single gal? I hope this gives more info.......
