Anyone have any ideas for a summer job for a chemistry/physics teacher? How about temporary agencies in the down river area of southeastern Michigan? I need some leads.

I have a masters degree in chemical engineering (actually an MS with a major in chemical engineering) and a master of arts in teaching. I have 18 years experience in automotive production, design and testing.

None of my contacts are worth much in looking for a job because everyone seems to be downsizing but I'm hoping that the downsizing has left companies short handed for the vacation season. I'd really like to find a temp agency to work for. Having never used one before, I don't even know the names of the temp agencies besides Kelly and that's clear up in Troy. There has to be something downriver.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ivory

When I was in college, I worked for the metripark system. A lot of the people working there were teachers. It is a very pleasant summer job. It is not going to make you rich, but after a few years there, you will move up into better positions. You might end up working for one of your students the first year, but unless you are a bozohead, you will end up in a management position. One of the nice things was that they give returning employees priority, or at elast they did. I worked there on weekends and some nights during the school year as well. (Ice rink or Ski rental). That was the best job I have ever had (even better than being a clown!).

If it were that easy, we woudln't have 9% unemployment here.

Jobs are hard to come by. I need an angle.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I'm not near any metroparks.

Erie Metropark is downriver. Willow is nearby as well. There is another one really close as well (Lower Huron maybe). However if you climb the management ladder, you will eventually end up working out of Kensington (near Milford). The management people often travel from one park to another, so they are on the road all day anyway.

You could try some of the marinas, or the dock building and repair companys, they often need seasonal help.
