I wonder whats up with that? People trying to figure out where to buy that recreational property now that prices are down? Or just can't afford to go to Europe?

I think most people just say they hate Michigan because its the "in" thing to do. Then they all plan secret trips here all summer. I mean really.....why wouldnt any one want to come here?

I read once that Michigan had the highest percentage of residents who vacationed in their own state. That is probably more true than ever now. People aren't traveling as far as they might normally do in the hopes that they might save some money.

The state finally, FINALLY, getting back into the tourism advertising game is the primary reason for this stellar performance. MI has a lot to sell, and finally has some good promotion to do so.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. I can't tell you how many people I know go "up north" in the summer. To just stay home is almost unthinkable.

I worked in reservations at the Traverse City CVB for many years, and although many people are doing exotic vacations these days, they still like their up north trip, it's very much a Michigander thing.

I couldnt imagine a summer of not going "up north" Allthough I enjoy every part of the northern lower, I am drawn to the Au Sable River area for some reason. Much like the U.P. and Lake Superior area, something about that amazingly beautiful river, and the forests surrounding it calls me back every year. It never ceases to give me the chills when I get up there, set up camp, and sit and stare at that great river.
